Bayer 04 Leverkusen produced a remarkable comeback to salvage a 2-2 draw against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, courtesy of a dramatic last-gasp equalizer from Robert Andrich.
Stuttgart took a commanding lead in the first half, but Leverkusen fought back in the second and snatched a point in the dying moments. Andrich's left-footed shot from the center of the box found the high center of the goal, giving Leverkusen a valuable point in their pursuit of retaining the Bundesliga title.
Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen side had put their unbeaten run on the line against Stuttgart, who came to the BayArena buoyed by recent form. The game lived up to expectations, with both teams creating numerous chances throughout.
Stuttgart's goals came from an own goal by Odilon Kossounou and a strike from Serhou Guirassy. However, Leverkusen refused to give up and pushed tirelessly for an equalizer. Andrich's late goal was a fitting reward for their efforts, extending their unbeaten run to eight matches.
The draw leaves Leverkusen in second place in the Bundesliga standings, four points behind leaders Bayern Munich. Stuttgart remains in mid-table, but they will take heart from their performance against the champions.
