Argentina Beat Canada 2-0 at Copa América
Alvarez, Di Maria Score as Argentina Open Title Defense with Victory
Goals from Julian Álvarez and Ángel Di María gave Argentina a comfortable 2-0 win over Canada in their opening match of the Copa América on Tuesday night.
Álvarez opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a clinical finish from inside the box. Di María doubled Argentina’s lead in the 59th minute with a curling shot from outside the area.
Argentina were in control throughout the match and had several chances to extend their lead. Lionel Messi hit the post in the first half, while Rodrigo De Paul and Ángel Correa both had good chances in the second half.
Canada had a few chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find the back of the net. Alphonso Davies had Canada’s best chance in the first half, but his shot was saved by Emiliano Martínez.
The win gives Argentina a strong start to their Copa América campaign. They will face Uruguay in their next match on Saturday.
