Smoky Haze From Wildfires in Idaho, California Extends to Southern Utah

Air Quality Health Advisory

The Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued an air quality health advisory for southwest Utah due to the smoke from the wildfires in Idaho and California that is extending into the state. Soot and smoke particle levels in the air are expected to remain elevated for the next few days. Smoke can irritate the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. It can also worsen conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and heart disease.

The DEQ recommends that people, especially children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems, limit outdoor activities. If you must go outside, consider wearing a mask to protect your lungs from the smoke.

Wildfire Smoke Forecast

The National Weather Service has issued a smoke forecast for the region, and it predicts that the smoke will continue to move into Southern Utah for the next few days.

What You Can Do to Protect Yourself From Wildfire Smoke

There are a few things you can do to protect yourself from wildfire smoke:

  • Stay indoors as much as possible. If you must go outside, wear a mask to protect your lungs from the smoke.
  • Keep your windows and doors closed. This will help keep the smoke out of your home.
  • Run an air purifier in your home. This will help remove smoke particles from the air.
